A Brief Overview of Tom Ford Eyewear
Everyone loves a good pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses, and designer eyewear has become extremely popular over the years. With Raybans leading the way, others weren’t far behind and designer labels such as Chanel, Gucci, Prada and Tom Ford started making their own eyewear under their labels.
Born in Austin, Texas, in 1961, Tom Ford spent his early childhood in Houston, Texas. He was born to parents who were both realtors. In 1979, after graduating from high school, Tom Ford went to college in New York but soon dropped out. He went on to join the advertising industry where he was often working on various different campaigns at a time. At one point, he was even working in 12 campaigns at the same time.
Tom Ford and Gucci
It was while he was in Paris that he discovered his love for fashion. After drifting around and working in the advertising industry, he finally came to work for Gucci in 1990. Gucci was in desperate need of a revival and was in pretty bad shape when Tom Ford set in.
In barely six months, Tom Ford turned Gucci around and revitalized the women’s’ designer clothing, readymade line. As his role slowly expanded, he was soon working on breathing new life into Gucci’s menswear, designer eyeglasses and by 1994; Tom Ford was not only the creative-director of Gucci but was also a well-known name in the fashion industry.
He didn’t just help Gucci revitalize their brand though; when he joined, the company was close to declaring bankruptcy. However, by 1994, Tom Ford had worked his magic on Gucci and the net worth of the brand was around $3.4 billion.
When Gucci later on acquired Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford became its creative director as well. However, in 2004, Tom Ford left Gucci and decided it was time to branch out on his own.
Although it was difficult to make himself stand out in the crowd with so many other renowned Eyewear brands to compete with, Tom Ford’s designs have been able to hold their own and have made him popular on an international level. His beauty designs launched in 2005, including the signature Tom Ford eyeglasses, won him great acclaim.
Since Tom Ford is dedicated to remaining strictly in the eyewear line, it is able to grow at a faster rate than his designer brand competitors. Tom Ford offers unique sunglasses and eyeglasses for men and women. The Tom Ford brand provides innovative designs that capture audiences and still manage to stand out from the rest in the market.
